Ranchi: A girl who was set on fire by a jilted lover in Dumka lost her battle of survival as she died of her burn injuries at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences here.
Five days ago the culprit had set on fire the girl while she was sleeping inside her house in Jaruwadih Mohallah under the Dumka Town Police Station area. The severely burnt girl was first brought to Phulo-Jhano medical college hospital from where she was sent to RIMS Ranchi here she lost the battle of life.
The culprit Shahrukh Hussain had one-sided love for the girl and when she refused his proposal he executed the crime. Acting promptly police had arrested the culprit the very next day after the incident. The family members of the girl said that the culprit use to harass their daughter on phone and after she had refused his advances he had threatened her with dire consequences.
Meanwhile, as soon as news of the death reached Dumka tension gripped the area. The members of the BJP and Bajrang Dal got on the roads and forced the closure of the market. Immediately police was deployed on the streets in large numbers to prevent any untoward incident. The demonstrators demanded death punishment for the accused via a fast-track court.
