DC calls for celebrating Mandar bye-election as “Green Election

Ranchi: On the occasion of World Environment Day, District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Ranchi Chhavi Ranjan planted “Tree of Democracy” in the premises of Collectorate, Ranchi. The Deputy Commissioner also called for celebrating the Mandar Vidhan Sabha bye-election as a Green Election.

On this occasion, DDC cum Senior Officer Personnel Cell, ADM Law and Order, Additional Collector, Electoral Officer 66- Mander (ST) Assembly cum Special Division Officer, SDM Sadar, Additional Collector (Naxal), Deputy Election Officer, including senior officers and nodal officers of various treasuries also planted trees. On this occasion, Booth Level Officer also planted a tree. District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Ranchi, Chhavi Ranjan said on this occasion that in democracy, people have been considered as paramount.

It is through elections that the general public chooses the candidate of their choice by exercising their franchise. The election is the biggest festival of democracy and it has been resolved to celebrate this Mandar by-election as “Green Election”. This tree of democracy is the foundation of the great festival of democracy. According to the instructions of the District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner tree plantation was also done in six other assembly constituencies including Mandar Vidhan Sabha of Ranchi district.

Tree plantation was done in the office premises of the Electoral Registration Officer and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of Tamar, Silli, Khijri, Ranchi, Hatia, Kanke and Mandar assembly constituencies of the Ranchi district. The DC had given strict instructions to all the Assistant Electoral Registration Officers of Mander (SC) Vidhan Sabha that in any case, do not use single-use plastic or thermocol in election work. All 429 polling stations were instructed to plant trees in a phased manner.

Eco-friendly materials like leaves, dona, paper, jute, pottery etc. are to be used at the polling stations. It has been directed to ensure the arrangement of eco-friendly dustbins at all the polling stations so that any kind of environmentally harmful waste such as discarded masks, plastics, etc can be kept and also directed to make arrangements for proper disposal.

All the Assistant Electoral Registration Officers have been directed to give information and spread wide awareness to the people regarding the use of eco-friendly materials. For this, it has been asked to bring awareness among the general public through the market, haat organized from time to time.
