Excise Department got record revenue of Rs 188 crores in May 2022 - Vinay Choubey

Ranchi: Due to the new liquor policy of the Excise Department, an increase of 70 percent has been registered in the revenue collection in May 2022, which is a record. Before the implementation of the new policy, a revenue of
Rs 109 crore was received in April 2022, while Rs 188 crore was received in May 2022.

On one hand there has been an increase in revenue and on the other hand the system has also undergone a radical change due to the change in the policy on four points. These things were said by Vinay Kumar Choubey, Secretary, Excise and Prohibition Department, while addressing the journalists at Kautilya Auditorium of the Excise Department.

Mr Choubey informed that a resolution was issued on March 31 regarding the new liquor policy in the state and the new liquor policy was implemented in the state from May 1, 2022 by preparing new policies in a month. In one month, the government has received Rs 188 crore in excise revenue, which is a record till date.

He said that the new excise policy has been made in line with the revenue growth, in which new policies have been made regarding three points viz wholesaler, retailer and bar operation, while the country liquor policy has been amended. Along with this, different agencies have been selected with transparency through online tender for manpower, security guards, audit, transport etc and the policy has a balance between checks and balances.

He said that last time there was a provision of revenue on sales, whereas this time provision has been made for revenue on off-take, as well as where liquor is being produced, we are providing the code by giving online hologram as per the new policy. Giving information, the Excise Secretary said that when the new product policy was implemented in August 2017, the revenue of only Rs 23 crores was received in the month of its implementation, whereas Rs 188 crores has been generated after the policy was implemented on May 1, 2022.

It is a document of the success story of this policy. He said that the problem of country liquor had come in the month of May but within the next ten days this problem would be solved. Regarding the hiring policy, he said that a committee has been constituted at the district level, which will appoint those who fulfill the qualifications after a continuous process.

Excise Commissioner Amit Kumar informed that at present total 1434 shops are active and track and trace system is running as a pilot project in 49 shops over the last one month. He informed that track and trace system is also being started in five districts Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad, Seraikela and Bokaro from June 1 and with the implementation of the above system, the possibility of leakage will almost be eliminated he said.
