Ranchi Police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the double murder case in Bariyatu and arrested three persons allegedly involved in the killing of a woman and her 10-year-old son.
Aarti Devi and her son Hrithik were found murdered at their residence on July 12.
Ranchi Senior Superintendent of Police Anish Gupta said Rahul Kumar Singh and Ashish Kumar Ghosh were the alleged main conspirators behind the crime. Ghosh was working as a cleaning staff member with the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC).
According to the police, the accused had planned to commit a robbery. They allegedly got Aarti to open the door, but when she resisted, the woman and her son were killed because the accused feared that their identities would be exposed.
The accused allegedly fled with around Rs 10,000 in cash, jewellery, important documents, the CCTV system's DVR and other belongings from the house.
During the investigation, police recovered some of the stolen items from a local river in Bodeya. However, the CCTV DVR had not yet been recovered.
Police initially arrested a person identified as Guddu, whose interrogation allegedly led investigators to the other two accused. The investigation into the case is continuing.
