Kajol Cheers as ‘DDLJ’ Earns Spot in The Academy’s Favourite Romance Picks

Bollywood actress Kajol has given a big thumbs up after The Academy included the iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) in its list of favourite travel-themed romance movies.

The Academy recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a curated list of beloved romantic films that revolve around travel. Alongside DDLJ, the list featured titles like The Holiday and Eat Pray Love, inviting fans worldwide to vote for their personal favourite.

Kajol, who starred in DDLJ opposite Shah Rukh Khan, didn’t hesitate to show her love for the classic. Reacting to the post, she simply wrote, “I vote for DDLJ,” reaffirming the film’s enduring charm.

Released over three decades ago, DDLJ continues to hold a special place in the hearts of audiences. Its story of love, travel, and cultural identity has made it a timeless favourite, especially among Indians living abroad.

Last year, marking 30 years of the film, Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan unveiled a bronze statue of their characters in London’s Leicester Square—a testament to the film’s global legacy.

Reflecting on its journey, Kajol had earlier shared that the team never anticipated the film would become such a worldwide phenomenon. Over time, DDLJ has evolved into more than just a movie—it’s a cultural touchstone for the Indian diaspora and remains one of the longest-running films in cinema history.
