Mumbai — More than two decades after its release, Jennifer Lopez says her iconic character Marisa Ventura from Maid in Manhattan continues to hold a special place in her heart.
Taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane, Lopez shared a series of photos and video clips from the film on Instagram, including some of its most memorable moments — from the elegant peach dress to behind-the-scenes glimpses.
In her caption, she reflected on the character, writing that even after all these years, she still thinks about Marisa — a single mother navigating a world of luxury that wasn’t originally hers, yet carrying herself with confidence and grace.
Lopez also revealed that the film began as a script titled “The Chambermaid.” She shared how she collaborated with director Wayne Wang to shape the story into something more personal — portraying a Bronx girl chasing dreams beyond her circumstances, a role that closely mirrored her own roots.
Calling herself “lucky,” Lopez fondly remembered working alongside a talented cast that included Ralph Fiennes, Natasha Richardson, Bob Hoskins, Stanley Tucci, Tyler Posey, and Amy Sedaris.
Based on a story by John Hughes (credited under a pseudonym), the film follows a hotel maid who is mistaken for a wealthy socialite, leading to an unexpected romance with a prominent politician. The movie went on to become a box office success and remains a fan favorite.
Lopez, who began her acting career with My Little Girl in 1986, rose to prominence with the 1997 biopic Selena, and has since built a successful career across film and music.
