Nicole Kidman Shares the Story Behind Her Most Unpleasant On-Screen Kiss

Los Angeles— Hollywood star Nicole Kidman has revealed the co-star with whom she experienced her most uncomfortable on-screen kiss. The 58-year-old actress shared the amusing behind-the-scenes moment involving her Big Little Lies co-star Alexander Skarsgård, saying the scene became difficult after he ate a falafel sandwich beforehand.

Kidman spoke about the incident during a recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, according to People magazine. Recalling the moment, she joked that she had to stop Skarsgård before filming.

“I told him, ‘No, no, no, Alex. I’m supposed to be kissing you and looking like I’m enjoying it — put the falafel away because that breath isn’t helping,’” she said with a laugh.

The Perfect Couple actress added that the taste and smell of a co-star’s breath can make a big difference during close scenes. She even teased that Skarsgård likely avoided falafel before filming after that conversation. “I said, ‘No more falafel before kissing scenes or love scenes,’” she recalled.

Kidman admitted that bad breath is a complete deal-breaker for her, even off camera. “If someone has bad breath, I just can’t handle it,” she said. “They could be the most attractive person, but if the breath isn’t good, I’m done.”

She joked that if someone asked her to check their breath and she had to pull back in shock, there would be no convincing her otherwise. “Not even a huge paycheck would change my mind,” she added.

Interestingly, Kidman also mentioned that when she temporarily lost her sense of smell during COVID-19, it came as a strange kind of relief. “That’s my most sensitive sense, so for a moment it felt like freedom,” she said.

During the podcast, the actress also revealed the celebrity she believes smells the best — singer Rihanna. Kidman described her scent as “absolutely intoxicating,” adding with a laugh that she could happily follow the pop star around.

Kidman’s light-hearted podcast appearance comes after she recently spoke publicly for the first time about her divorce from country singer Keith Urban. The actress filed for divorce in September 2025, and the split was finalized on January 6. The former couple share two daughters together.
