Jennifer Lopez Sets Clear Standards for Future Partner: Respect, Acceptance, and Self-Worth

Los Angeles — Singer and actress Jennifer Lopez has spoken candidly about what she expects from a future partner, saying she wants a man who will respect her, treat her right, and accept her for who she truly is. The comments come after her divorce from actor-filmmaker Ben Affleck in 2025.

Lopez shared her reflections on love, heartbreak, and personal growth while performing her 1999 hit *If You Had My Love* during her *Up All Night* show in Las Vegas. Addressing the audience at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, she looked back on how her perspective on the song — and relationships — has evolved over the years.

“When I first sang it, I was very young, and I sang it with a lot of hope,” she said in a clip shared on social media. “I’ve sung it when I was sad, and I’ve sung it when I was happy. But today, I sing it in power.”

The singer went on to outline her expectations clearly: “If you wanted to have my love, you would have to earn it. You would have to treat me right. You would have to respect me. You would have to accept me for all that I am. You would have to love me if you wanted my love.”

Lopez also acknowledged the realities of relationships, saying, “You can’t have love without heartbreak. That’s what you sign up for,” according to femalefirst.co.uk.

Despite setting out her standards for a future relationship, the *On The Floor* hitmaker is reportedly not ready to begin dating again. A source told people.com in December that Lopez is currently focused on her career and her children, adding, “It’s all about work and the kids for her. She seems happy and content.”

Lopez shares 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with her former husband Marc Anthony. She and Ben Affleck first became engaged in 2004 before calling it off, later rekindling their romance in 2021. The couple married in July 2022, and Lopez filed for divorce two years later, citing April 26, 2024, as the date of their separation.

Previously, Lopez was married to Ojani Noa from 1997 to 1998, Cris Judd from 2001 to 2003, and Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2014. She was also engaged to Alex Rodriguez in 2019, with the relationship ending in 2021.
