Mumbai: The recently released blockbuster Dhurandhar has been granted tax-free status in Ladakh, providing a significant boost to the film’s box-office prospects in the Union Territory.
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, announced the decision through a post on X (formerly Twitter). Sharing details of the move, he highlighted the administration’s intent to encourage filmmaking and promote Ladakh as a major hub for cinema and tourism.
In his post, the Lieutenant Governor stated that Dhurandhar, which was extensively shot in Ladakh, showcases the region’s striking cinematic landscapes. He noted that the decision reflects strong institutional support for filmmakers and aligns with Ladakh’s broader strategy to position itself as a preferred destination for film shoots. He also added that the administration is working on a new film policy and will extend full support to film productions in the region.
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar continues to dominate the box office, emerging as one of the biggest commercial successes of recent times. The film follows the story of an Indian intelligence operative who infiltrates criminal and organised crime networks in Pakistan. It offers a fictionalised narrative depicting the nexus between Pakistan’s underworld and the ISI, and how such collusion leads to terror attacks in India.
The spy thriller has significantly strengthened the Hindi film industry’s performance this year, which has already witnessed several superhits and blockbusters. It is being seen as a milestone that marks a new phase in the Indian spy-thriller genre.
Released on December 5, 2025, Dhurandhar has demonstrated remarkable consistency at the ticket counters. Within three weeks of its release, the film crossed the Rs 600 crore mark at the domestic box office and maintained strong collections through the Christmas and New Year period.
Internationally, the film entered the Rs 1,000 crore club in just about three weeks, placing it among a select group of Indian films to achieve the feat. Its sustained run, including a Rs 100 crore collection in the fourth week and double-digit daily earnings for nearly a month, has firmly positioned it among the highest-grossing Hindi films of all time.
Blending strong word-of-mouth with sustained momentum across domestic and overseas markets, Dhurandhar has emerged as a major commercial phenomenon.
