Rashmika Mandanna’s ‘The Girlfriend’ Cleared by Censor Board with U/A Certificate

Hyderabad — The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared director Rahul Ravindran’s much-anticipated romantic drama The Girlfriend, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Dheekshith Shetty, for release with a U/A certificate.

Geetha Arts, the production house backing the film, announced the news on Thursday through its social media platforms, writing:

“It is a U/A for #TheGirlfriend. Experience intense drama, relatable emotions, and stellar performances on the big screen. Grand Release Worldwide Tomorrow.”

The film, which has generated significant buzz among fans and film enthusiasts, is slated to release worldwide on November 7.

The recently released trailer opens with Rashmika’s character, Bhooma, suggesting to her boyfriend Vikram that they take a “small break” — clarifying that she means a proper one. It then flashes back to the moment when Vikram proposed marriage, saying, “There is an auspicious time day after tomorrow. Let’s get married.”

While Vikram is deeply convinced that Bhooma is the perfect girlfriend, Bhooma herself seems uncertain and hesitant, reluctantly addressing him as her boyfriend.

The trailer also features Anu Emmanuel as a friend who questions Bhooma’s happiness in the relationship, pointing out that while Bhooma may be perfect for Vikram, the reverse isn’t true. Vikram is portrayed as a possessive, arrogant, and controlling man, while Bhooma appears trapped in a toxic relationship she struggles to escape.

Rashmika Mandanna has previously spoken highly of director Rahul Ravindran and her trust in his vision. In a heartfelt birthday post for him, she wrote:

“You are too precious, my friend. I still can’t believe you’ve made a film like The Girlfriend... The emotional depth and kindness in your heart flow through every frame. I met you for The Girlfriend and found a director, a friend, a mentor, and a partner in crime for life whom I trust wholly and immensely.”

Written and directed by Rahul Ravindran, The Girlfriend features music by Hesham Abdul Wahab and cinematography by Krishnan Vasant.
