My struggle story in Bollywood might inspire many, says Govinda

Bollywood actor Govinda believes his journey from struggling as an outsider to becoming one of the industry's most popular stars could make for an inspiring biopic, although he is not currently interested in seeing his life portrayed on screen.

Speaking at the trailer launch of his upcoming comedy film Fryday on Saturday, Govinda said that he would rather concentrate on his acting career for now.

“I do not think that making a biopic on my life at this point of my career is a good idea -- I am working on films. But I think starting from zero, in a film industry that does not give any newcomers a chance easily, to make it to the top is surely an interesting journey of my life; that is inspirational,” he told IANS.

The actor said his experience of overcoming financial hardship and professional uncertainty could offer encouragement to aspiring artists who face difficult beginnings.

He said people often become depressed when they are going through poverty, but learning to accept difficult circumstances and work towards overcoming them can make a difference.

Govinda rose to prominence in the late 1980s and 1990s with a string of successful films, particularly comedies and entertainers. His ability to combine comic timing with dance and performance helped establish him as one of Bollywood's most recognisable stars.

At the trailer launch, Govinda also praised his Fryday co-star Varun Sharma, saying the young actor had delivered an impressive performance.

“Varun is too good in the film, he performed fantastically,” Govinda said, joking that if both actors lost a few kilos, they would become superstars.

The actor also recalled working with veteran performers such as Anupam Kher and Kader Khan, saying their performances had once left him so impressed that he struggled to deliver his own dialogues.

Remembering his experience while shooting Shola Aur Shabnam, Govinda said he was amazed by Anupam Kher's acting ability. He recalled a similar experience with Kader Khan and said he recently felt the same admiration while working with actor Vijendra Kale.

Govinda also emphasised that the success of a film depends on the combined contribution of its cast and crew rather than any one performer.

Fryday, directed by Abhishek Dogra, revolves around two characters played by Govinda and Varun Sharma. The film also features Vijendra Kale and other members of the cast.

The comedy is scheduled to release on October 12.
