Stock Market Outlook: Crude Oil, India-US Inflation and Earnings in Focus Next Week

Crude oil prices above $100 per barrel, key inflation readings from India and the US, rupee movements and corporate earnings are likely to shape the direction of Indian equities in the coming week, as investors assess whether the recent rebound can hold after eight consecutive weeks of losses.

Domestic benchmark indices staged a strong recovery on Friday, supported by buying in information technology (IT), fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), automobile and financial stocks.

The Nifty climbed 288.65 points, or 1.30 per cent, to close at 22,520.45, while the Sensex gained 879.09 points, or 1.23 per cent, to settle at 72,472.33. The rally helped both indices end their eight-week losing streak.

However, persistent foreign investor outflows, elevated crude oil prices, a weakening rupee and concerns about tighter monetary conditions continue to weigh on the market outlook.

Investors will closely monitor developments in global energy markets, upcoming inflation data and the corporate earnings season for signals about the sustainability of the recovery.

Crude oil prices will remain a major focus. Brent crude is trading above $100 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is above $90. Uncertainty surrounding Iran, the Strait of Hormuz and regional energy infrastructure has raised concerns about potential supply disruptions.

Sustained high oil prices could increase India's import bill, put pressure on the rupee and add to domestic inflationary pressures, making energy-market developments particularly important for investors.

Inflation figures and US bond yields will also be in focus. The US September Consumer Price Index (CPI) report, scheduled for release on Wednesday, is expected to provide fresh insight into price pressures and influence expectations about the Federal Reserve's future policy decisions.

US retail sales data will offer another indication of the strength of consumer demand. Stronger-than-expected figures could keep Treasury yields and the dollar elevated, potentially putting pressure on emerging-market equities.

In India, September CPI and wholesale price index (WPI) inflation data will help investors assess domestic price trends and their implications for monetary policy. Signs of persistent inflation could affect interest-rate expectations and market sentiment.

Movements in the rupee will also be closely tracked, given the pressure that expensive crude oil and foreign capital outflows can place on the domestic currency.

Corporate earnings will be another important driver as the results season gathers pace. Investors will examine revenue growth, profit margins, management commentary and demand outlooks to determine whether earnings can support valuations amid an uncertain economic environment.

Results from Indian companies, alongside major corporate announcements in the US, could trigger sector-specific movements and influence the broader market.

Global monetary policy expectations and bond-market movements will remain additional factors shaping investor sentiment through the week. With several domestic and international triggers lined up, market participants are likely to remain sensitive to incoming data and developments in crude oil prices.
