TDF and India Tourism Mumbai celebrate The International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

Ranchi: A Tribal Design Forum – a community of multidisciplinary designers of tribal origin from across the country and India Tourism Mumbai got together online with quiz enthusiasts from some of the leading institutions of India to celebrate the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples through the second edition of the Tribal Heritage of India Quiz Contest.

The content of the quiz covered various aspects of tribal culture, history, geography, museums, art, architecture, music, dance, textiles, cuisine, language, scripts, literature and indigenous knowledge systems highlighting the rich tribal heritage of India.

Speaking on the occasion, Venkatesan Dhattatreyan, Regional Director Western Region, Indiatourism Mumbai said “India Tourism Mumbai has been engaged with Tribal Design Forum on various initiatives in the past and it appreciates the value that the Forum brings to us in promoting tourism and creating awareness.

The quiz was not only a learning experience about the tribes but also very competitive. Finally, all the participants emerged winners as each carry back new knowledge on the tribal heritage of India.” This hotly contested quiz contest culminated with top ten winners. Abhijeet Munda from Ranchi University won a two-night, three-day all expenses paid experiential trip to the Sohrai and Kohvar painted villages of Hazaribagh, to be hosted by Sanskriti Homestays.

The grand prize of the Tribal Heritage of India Quiz is being sponsored by the Tribal Design Forum community. “As the world is celebrating the International Day for the Indigenous People, we would like to use this day to create awareness about the unique diversity of the many tribal cultures that are there in India.

Creating awareness about the diverse tribal cultures and values is important to foster a better understanding of tribal communities. And the quiz contest an outreach to have a conversation with rest of our country people to enable them to discover, explore and learn about the rich tribal heritage of India,” said Sudhir John Horo, convenor of the Tribal Design Forum.
