Basant Soren files nomination as JMM candidate from Dumka seat

Dumka: Basant Soren on Monday filed his nominations as JMM candidate for the bypolls on Dumka (Reserved ST) seat of the Jharkhand Assembly.

Basant Soren handed over his nomination papers to Electoral officer cum SDO Dumka Maheshwar Mahto. Prior to filing his nominations, he offered prayers at 'Jaher Than'. Chief Minister Hemant Soren also reached Dumka on the occasion but he was not present while filing the nomination papers.

Basant Soren is the youngest son of JMM supremo and Rajya Sabha MP Shibu Soren while Chief Minister Hemant Soren is his elder brother.

After filing the nominations Basant said that the people of Dumka are his strength on whom he has complete faith. He said that the present state government is busy correcting the wrongdoings of the previous government.

Basant said that after winning he would be sitting with the people and claimed that he has already made note of the problems of the constituency but he would work with the people to solve their grievances. Upon his candidature, he said that maybe the party thought that he could perform better therefore he has been given the opportunity.

The bypolls on Dumka seat have been necessitated as Hemant Soren had won from both Dumka and Barhet and later he resigned from Dumka and took oath as MLA from Barhet seat. Voting on Dumka is scheduled on November 3 while counting of votes will take place on November 10.
