Lateha: In an encounter that took place in Salaiya forest of Nawagarh panchayat under Sadar Police Station area of this district a deputy commandant of the Jharkhand Jaguar was martyred while an ultra belonging to the Jharkhand Janmukti Parishad (JJMP) was killed.
The deputy commandant has been identified as Rajesh Kumar. Police sources said that the seriously injured Deputy commandant was brought by the jawans to Latehar where after administering the first aid he was airlifted to Ranchi for better medical aid.
However, on the way, the deputy commandant lost his life.
Sources said that after receiving concrete information regarding the presence of the ultras in the forest a search operation was launched. As soon as the ultras saw the jawans they opened fire.
The gun battle between the two sides continued for nearly two hours however later the ultras fled into the deeper reaches of the forest. During the search and combing operations, arms and many other items have been also recovered.
The identity of the killed ultra is yet to be ascertained.
