Jharkhand Assembly Bypolls: JMM names Basant Soren as its candidate for Dumka bypolls

Dumka: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha on Tuesday declared the name of Basant Soren as its candidate for Dumka bypolls where polling would be held on November 3.

JMM's Central General Secretary Vijay Kumar Singh said that from Dumka Basant Soren would be the candidate. Basant Soren is the younger brother of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Earlier it was also being expected that wife of Hemant Soren, Kalpana Soren may be fielded from the post.

In the year 2016, Basant Soren had contested the Rajya Sabha Polls but despite having the necessary numbers he had lost as while two MLAs had cross voted while two remained absent.

Basant Soren's father Shibu Soren is currently Rajya Sabha MP while his elder brother Hemant Soren is the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, his sister-in-law and wife of the late Durga Soren, Sita Soren is MLA from Jama seat.

Though BJP is yet to name its candidate in all probability, it would be a former cabinet minister and ex-Dumka MLA Dr Louis Marandi would be fielded from the seat.
