Dumka: A two-seater glider crashed at the Dumka airport Monday evening in which an engineer on board was killed while the pilot has sustained serious injuries.
The deceased has been identified as engineer Dharmendra Kumar while the pilot JP Singh has been referred to Mission Hospital Durgapur. Dumka SP Y S Ramesh talking to confirmed the death of the engineer.
Eyewitnesses said that the incident took place around 5.30 pm. They said that after its usual round the glider was landing at the runway during which one of the wheels hit a mud heap due to which it kept on dragging and was split into two parts. Post the incident the airport has been sealed.
The SP said that to probe the incident a team of the civil aviation department would be coming to the airport has been sealed.
An hour earlier before the incident Chief Minister Hemant Soren had reached the airport on his way back to Ranchi during which he had also inspected the glider.
