Tusker kills woman in Godda

Godda: A wild elephant killed a woman in Karkachiya village under Poriyahaat Police Station area of this district. The deceased woman has been identified as Shamima Bibi (56). Villagers said that the woman had gone to the forest when she came in the way of the tusker which trampled her to death.

After receiving information a team of the forest department reached on the spot and gave Rs 25,000 as immediate compensation after which the body was sent for postmortem by police.

Godda DFO Arvind Kumar said that for the last three days the elephant was in Satphadi forest and whenever the forest department tries to scare the elephant away it enters into a nearby pond. He said that presently the tusker was in Dumka forest division near Bansloi river and a team of the forest department has been posted there so that the tusker does not come back to Godda.
