5TH phase of elections in Jharkhand: 20 candidates remain in Ranchi, 14 in Koderma

Ranchi: At the end of the stipulated time frame for withdrawal of candidature on four Lok Sabha seats of Jharkhand including Koderma, Ranchi, Khunti (ST) and Hazaribagh a total of four candidates including one in Koderma and four in Ranchi withdrew their candidatures leaving behind a total of 61 candidates in race for these four seats.

Post the withdrawal 14 candidates are left in Koderma, 20 in Ranchi, 11 in Khunti and 16 others in Hazaribagh. The remaining candidates were later also allotted the party symbols.

Among the prominent candidates who are fighting on these seats included former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi of the JVM(P) who is contesting from Koderma, Annapurna Devi of the BJP too is a candidate from Koderma while Rajkumar Yadav of the CPI (ML) is once again in the race from the same seat.

The hot seat of Ranchi will witness Subodhkant Sahai of the Congress take on Sanjay Seth of the BJP and making the contest triangular is sitting MP Ramtahal Chowdhary who has been fielded as an independent. In Khunti another former Chief Minister Arjun Munda is in the race while in Hazaribagh sitting MP Jayant Sinha has been pitted against Bhuneshwar Mehta of the CPI and Gopal Sahu of the Congress.

Voting on these four seats will be held on May 6. At present all the four seats are with the BJP.
