Income Tax dept eyes to collect Rs 14,700 crore through taxes in 2018- 19 from Bihar-Jharkhand

Ranchi: Principal Tax Commissioner Bihar and Jharkhand K C Ghumaria today said that the department aims to earn Rs 14,700 through taxes during the year 2018-19 from both the states. Addressing a press conference here Mr Ghumaria said that as compared to the previous fiscal this year the tax collection has gone up by 13.5 percent. He said that so far the department has collected income tax worth Rs 8,400 crore and hopes to reach Rs 9,000 crore by the end of February while the remaining is to be collected in the month of March.

He said that the department was concentrating on regular tax offenders and traders who have indulged in tax evasion and would do IT survey against them. The Principal Tax Commissioner said that the department has found 1300-1400 cases of tax frauds coming mostly from Bokaro and Ramgarh district while few have come from Ranchi. He said that the department has so far registered 3 fir’s in this connection in Ramgarh and was in constant touch with the senior police personnel of the area so that the tax offenders can be arrested.

He also pointed that recently the department had unearthed a case of tax evasion of Rs 163 crore by Jindal Steel and Power Ltd as under section 206 of IT rules the company should deposit the tax after selling the scrap which was not done by them. He said that soon the department would be approaching the company to collect the money. Mr Ghumaria said that people in Bihar and
Jharkhand people are taking the wrong deduction of HRA and said that the matter has been raised with CBDT which would examine the
issue pan India.
