Team of Pune police conducts raid at the house of Father Steyn Swami

Ranchi, Aug 28 (By correspondent): A team of the Pune Police conducted a raid at the house of social activist Father Steyn Swami located at Bagicha Toli under Namkum Police Station area of this district and took away his mobile
and laptop for investigation.

Several cases are registered against Steyn Swami in connection with the violence and vandalism which took place in Koregaon of Maharashtra and the raid of the Pune Police was part of that investigation.
Apart from Ranchi, the raids were also conducted in Maharashtra, Goa, Telangana and Delhi simultaneously which was done by Pune Police in collaboration with the local police authorities. An official who is part of the investigation said that in New Delhi social activist Gautam Naulakha has been taken away by Police and his laptop and other documents seized.

In Delhi raid was conducted at the house of civil right lawyer Sudha Bhardwaj who was taken into custody and a laptop, pen drive, a mobile phone has been seized, police has also sought the details of the social media accounts and e-mail ids of her daughter. In Hyderabad search was also conducted in the house of poet and left-wing thinker Varwara Rao and in Mumbai in the homes of Vernen Gonsalves and Arun Feraria. Police said that these names were revealed during the interrogation of five activists following which the search was conducted.

On January 1, 2018, social activists including Father Steyn Swami had addressed a public meeting in Pune following which on the next day massive violent protests had taken place.
