Moscow- US President Donald Trump has expressed frustration over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, stating there has been no progress toward resolving the crisis following his latest phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking to reporters at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, Trump said, "We discussed a lot of things, including Iran, and of course, the war in Ukraine. I’m not happy about that situation."
"I didn’t make any progress with him at all," Trump added, referring to efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict.
According to Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov, the phone call between Putin and Trump lasted nearly an hour on Thursday.
“As expected, the situation in Ukraine was discussed. President Trump once again raised the need to end hostilities as soon as possible,” Ushakov said. “In response, President Putin reiterated that Russia continues to seek a political and diplomatic solution. He updated Trump on the progress made regarding humanitarian agreements reached during the second round of direct Russia-Ukraine talks in Istanbul. He also confirmed that Russia remains open to negotiations.”
The Kremlin’s statement further noted, “President Putin made it clear that Russia will continue pursuing its objectives—eliminating the underlying causes that led to the current situation and the bitter confrontation we see today. Russia will not abandon these goals.”
Ushakov also mentioned that the leaders held a detailed discussion on Iran and broader developments in the Middle East.
The Russian side, he added, emphasised the importance of resolving all disputes and conflicts exclusively through political and diplomatic channels.
“The two presidents agreed to maintain ongoing contact on these issues through their respective foreign ministries, defence officials, and presidential aides,” Ushakov said.
This marks the fourth conversation between Trump and Putin in the last six weeks and their sixth meeting this year.
