Ranchi (By our correspondent): In a joint press conference addressed by the state police and pollution control board at the Suchana Bhawan here today the people of the state were urged to follow the directives of the Supreme Court and requested to burst firecrackers only between 2000hrs to 2200hrs.
ADG Operations of Jharkhand Police R K Mallik urged the people especially the youth to use less sound creating and green crackers so that the sound and air pollution is less. He said that as per the directions of the Supreme Court the crackers sound levels from the crackers should remain between 125-145 decibel at four meters from the point of bursting.
He said that people should make an effort to light up these firecrackers in a group so that the pollution is less. The ADG said that spots such as hospitals, educational Institutions, courts and other spots which have been declared as silence zone at such places within 100 meter radius crackers should not be burst and said that crackers which explode in a series and are manufactured with the use of different types of chemicals including arsenic, lead and mercury are also banned. He said that violation of these norms under Environment Protection Act 1986 section 15 and will also be considered contempt of the court.
Speaking on the occasion Chairman of the state pollution control board A K Rastogi said from November 1 to November
14 air quality is being monitored at four spots in the capital so that the pollution caused during Diwali in the city can be measured.
