17 killed, over 100 injured as train derails in Taiwan

YILAN, Oct. 21, 2018 (Xinhua) -- Photo taken on Oct. 21, 2018 shows the train derailment site in Yilan County, southeast China's Taiwan. At least 17 people died and another 120 injured as of 7 p.m. Sunday local time, after a passenger train derailed in Taiwan on Sunday afternoon, according to the island's railway authority. The Puyuma Express No. 6432 bound for Taitung from Shulin Station with 366 passengers on board derailed at 4:50 p.m. local time at Su'aoxin Station in Yilan County.

Taipei (IANS): At least 17 people were killed and over 100 injured when a train derailed near the Taiwanese capital on Sunday, railway officials said.

The high-speed Puyuma Express, which was carrying around 300 passengers, came off the tracks and overturned at around 4.50 p.m. local time in Yilan County, Efe news reported.
