Athawale asks Jharkhand Govt to give Rs 1 lakh for inter caste marriages

Ranchi (By our Correspondent): Union Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale asked the state government to provide Rs 1 lakh for inter-caste marriages in the state. Addressing the press after chairing a review
meeting with Social Welfare Minister Louis Marandi at the project building here he said that at present the state government gives Rs 25,000 while some of the other state governments give Rs 1 lakh while his department gives
Rs 2.50 lakh.

He said that in the entire country there is a huge demand for reservation by other communities and demanded that instead of reducing the reservation of SC/ST or OBCs but instead from the 50 percent general category they should be given a reservation of 25 percent. The Union Minister said that he wanted that in every district of Jharkhand there should be an old age home. So far there are 10 old age homes and construction was on 14 others.

He said that there are various vacant posts in the state for SC/ST and Divynags which the state government should fill up. He said that the reservation in government jobs for the divyang has been increased to 5 pc from 4 pc and also in education it was 5 pc. He said that it was the NDA government which accorded constitutional status to the OBC commission. He said that his department was committed to removing the task of manual scavenging and said that in the country 20,500 people are involved in it while in Jharkhand there was no single case of manual scavenging.
