Daltonagnj: Prime Minister Narendra Modi would be arriving on his second visit to the Palamu district on January 5 during which he would via online mode lay the foundation for the Mandal Dam project and will also address a public gathering.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to be in Palamu for about an hour from 1030hrs to 1130hrs and will address the public meeting at Chiyanki Airport grounds in which about 80,000 people are expected to be present. In wake of the visit of the Prime Minister the district
administration is busy with the preparations as leaves of all the government officials have been cancelled and a camp office has been opened at the venue.
Palamu SP Inderjeet Mahtha inspected the venue along with the officials and gave necessary instructions in this regard and also looked into the security measures to be adopted for the visit. For the visit of the Prime Minister 12 spots have been identified and to ensure people coming from different areas do not have any problems parkings would be constructed from different sides while there would be separate parking for the private vehicles. The Mandal Dam project is a very ambitious project of both
Bihar and Jharkhand and once the project is completed it would be benfitted Palamu, Garhwa and Latehar districts of Jharkhand while Gaya and Aurangabad of Bihar would also be benefitting from the project as water would be available for drinking and irrigation needs.
The foundation of the Mandal Dam was laid in 1970 by the than Bihar Chief Minister Karpuri Thakur and at that time the cost of the project was estimated to be Rs 125 crore which was expected to be completed by 1989. In the year 1998-99 the construction spot of the dam was attacked by the Maoists who also killed an engineer after which work was stopped.
