the second working day of the ongoing Winter Session of the Jharkhand Assembly.

As soon as the house assembled for the day after Christmas break, the MLAs of the opposition rose on their seats demanding discussion over the plight of para teachers. Speaker Dinesh Oraon said that the house should function systematically and sought the cooperation of all the MLAs to run the house smoothly. He also urged the legislators to maintain the decorum of the house and come appropriately dressed. His comments were directed at JMM MLAs who were present inside the house wearing shirts in support of slogans in favour of para teachers.

Mr Oraon said that he can not force them to take off their shirts but would rather urge them to be appropriately dressed. Pradeep Yadav of the JVM(P) said that the opposition was ready to cooperate with the chair however the issue of para teacher was very important. He said the state government beat up para teachers including women who were pregnant mercilessly, on the other hand, the Mnrega employees revenue employees were on strike in support of their various demands and it was not possible to ignore such issues.

Chief whip of the BJP Radha Krishna Kishore said that a calling attention motion has been moved and a special debate should be held in the house so that the stand of the government is also clear before everyone. In the meantime, many JMM MLAs led by Jaggarnath Mahto walked into the well of the house raising slogans over the support of para teachers. BJP MLA Ramkumar Pahan accused the opposition of doing politics in the name of para teachers and running away from having a debate over the issue.

Bhawnathpur MLA Bhanu Pratap Sahi also urged the speaker to hold discussions over the sufferings of the para teachers. Intervening into the debate Mr Radha Krishna Kishore said that the problem of para teachers was not related to the opposition or ruling parties as it was the problem of the entire state therefore a special debate should be held ovet the issue.

Leader of the opposition Hemant Soren said the para teachers have been working since 2002 and their current situation was worse in the present government. He said that in the last 16-17 years no para teacher had died in agitation however such is the insensitive nature of this government that whether it was male or female para teachers all were beaten up. He demanded that the work adjournment motion of the opposition be allowed and since the issue was very serious therefore the Chief Minister should himself reply over the issue.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Neelkanth Singh Munda said that the government wants to hold dialogue with the para teachers and sort out their problems as their issue was related to the entire state.
