Water from Soan river through pipeline to reach Palamu: Raghubar Das

Daltonganj (By our correspondent): Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das assured the people of the Palamu Division that water from the Soan river would be brought into the area through pipelines to solve the problems of drinking water and irrigation and he will try to lay the foundation for this ambitious scheme in the month of March next year.

Addressing the people during a function organised at the police line stadium in Medninagar here he said that the people of the area are dependent on agriculture. However, due to less rainfall, the state government has done a survey and sent a report to the center in which 129 blocks have been declared drought-hit. He said that in the entire state more than 14.78 lakh farmers have undertaken crop insurance scheme as part of which insurance sum worth Rs 5 crore would be distributed among the farmers of Palamu, Rs 4.66 crore in Garhwa and Rs 28.33 crore in Latehar. Mr Das asked the agriculture officials of the area to ensure that farmers get the benefit of the scheme in a transparent manner and they do not face any trouble. 

The Chief Minister said that Jharkhand was the first state in the country where 52 farmers were sent to Israel to learn the methods of modern farming in Israel and even farmers of Palamu went in the visit. He said that to understand as to how the farmers across the globe are working with modern methods the Global Agriculture Summit is being organised and he urged all the farmers to participate in the event. Mr Das suggested the farmers form cooperatives and do farming as the model has been adopted by the developed countries. He said that educated youth can also opt for farming and become farmers who are also creating jobs for another. 

The Chief Minister asked the people to come forward to take advantages of the various scheme of the state government. He said that by the year 2020 all the poor families in the state would be provided pucca homes and today 7000 homeless were given homes in Palamu and said that soon all Tana Bhagat families would also be provided homes as the DC has been already issued instructions in this regard. 

Mr Das said that the state government is also working for the empowerment of the women as property worth up to Rs 50lakh are being registered in their name at the payment of just Re 1 while women are being also made independent through the Sakhi mandals. He said that during the function grants worth Rs 3.75 crore has been distributed among 2813 women for duck and pig rearing while SHGs have been provided funds worth Rs 2.12 crore which will be beneficial in their economic progress.

The Chief Minister said that such para teachers who pelted stones on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda and state formation day is not correct. Mr Das said that he has no objections of being shown with the black flags but acts on the birthday of Bhagwan Birsa Munda will not be tolerated as stone pelters can never be teachers.
