Ranchi (By our correspondent): The four day long festival of Chhath which is dedicated to the worship of Sun God would commence
in the state from Sunday and as part of the preparations for the festival the markets are filled with people who are buying items required in performing the rituals of this festival which is also known as ‘Mahaparv’ in this area.
On Sunday the devotees will perform nahay-khay during which people take bath at their nearby river bodies and prepare lunch consisting of rice, dal mixed with pumpkin in pure ghee.
On Monday ‘kharna’ will be performed where devotes will prepare ‘kheer’ which would be offered to the god and distributed among friends, family members, and acquaintances.
On Tuesday the people will reach to the nearby ghats where they will offer ‘arghya’ to the setting sun and on Wednesday the festival will come to an end after again arghya being offered to the rising sun.
In wake of festival in which high importance is also accorded to cleanliness and purity special cleaning has been performed in the shops selling items used in the festival including fruits, jaggery etc. For the connivance of the devotees, the markets are also flooded with packed wheat flours and a variety of fresh fruits have been also piled on by the sellers.
