
Ranchi: Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu and Chief Minister Raghubar Das led the state in paying tributes to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
The duo reached Bapu Vatika located at the Morabadi grounds and offered their floral tributes to Bapu. On the occasion they appealed to the people to make a happy, self-reliant and prosperous Jharkhand and India.
He said that the core ideals of Satyagraha was based on nonviolence which led to the Independence of the country and brought before the world a new face for democracy, public rights and freedom.
In his address to the people the Chief Minister said that Mahatma Gandhi had a dream to make a clean India and despite 67 years of the Independence none of the governments showed their seriousness in realizing the dream of Bapu and for the first time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came into power in 2014 who announced from the red fort that on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Bapu a clean India will be offered to him as tributes .
He said that in the last five years the people of the country have worked to fulfill the dream of Gandhiji and said that the central and the state governments are working with dedication to realise the dream of Clean and Healthy India.
Mr Das said that it was momentus occasion as the nation has been able to fulfill the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi and said that it was due to the efforts of the state government and people of Jharkhand that the state has become ODF having 100 per cent toilet cover and a clean Jharkhand is being offered to Gandhiji as tributes.
Adding further the Chief Minister said that on August 15, 2019 Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called upon the people to take pledge against the use of single-use plastic and this can not be left alone for the government of the municipal bodies but people living in every corner of the state needed to be made aware in this regard.
He said that people also needed to take responsibility as single-use plastic was dangerous for the environment, animals and also human beings. He urged the people not to use single-use plastic and said that the state needed to play an important role in making a single-use plastic-free Jharkhand and India.
Mr Das also offered his tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Sashtri who coined the slogan of Jai Jawan Jai Kissan and gave a new strength to the soldiers and farmers of the country. He said that drawing inspiration from his life the state government started the Mukhyamantri Krishi Aashirwas Yojana so that the farmers can become economically strong and prosperous.
He said that Bapu had also advocated for women empowerment and had worked not only to make them strong but also link them with jobs and his double engine government was following the same mantra. He said that the women have been provided training in stitching and are being provided the sewing machine along with the certificate so that they can stand on their feet.
Those present on the occasion included Urban Development Minister CP Singh, Ranchi MP Sanjay Seth, MLA Jeetu Charan Ram, Ranchi Mayor Asha Lakra and others.
