Centre declares 10 districts of Jharkhand drought hit

Ranchi: The central government has declared ten districts of Jharkhand as drought-hit after which relief would be provided to 12 lakh farmers spread across these ten districts.

The worst-hit district was Bokaro while in the medium drought-hit districts included Chatra Deoghar Garhwa Giridih Godda Hazaribagh Hazaribagh Jamtara Koderma and Pakur. The state government has urged the centre to also include Ranchi Dumka and Latehar districts in the list of the drought-hit districts.

These districts have been declared drought-hit taking into account the rainfall between August 1 to September 4th.

Agriculture Secretary Pooja Singhal said that the state government had asked the centre to declare Jharkhand drought-hit. She said that the centre after its investigation and going through the details has decided to declare 10 districts drought-hit. She said that the state government has asked to include at least include three more districts in this list.
