Giridih — A shocking double murder unfolded late Wednesday night in Lukaiya village under Giridih’s Mufassil police station area, leaving the entire locality stunned, police officials reported on Thursday.
According to the police, a man brutally stabbed his wife to death at her parents' house and was subsequently lynched by her family members and villagers as he tried to escape.
The victim, identified as Meena Hansda, had been married to Chhotelal Hansda for eight years. Their relationship had deteriorated over time, prompting Meena to return to her parental home.
Authorities stated that reconciliation efforts were ongoing. However, during a visit to Lukaiya village a heated argument erupted between the couple on Wednesday night. In a violent outburst, Chhotelal fatally stabbed Meena multiple times.
As he attempted to flee, villagers and Meena’s relatives caught him and subjected him to a brutal beating, resulting in his death at the scene.
Sadar SDPO Jeetwahan Oraon and Mufassil police station in-charge Shyam Kishore Mahato arrived at the scene soon after receiving the alert.
“Villagers apprehended Chhotelal Hansda while he was trying to escape after killing his wife and beat him to death. We are registering two separate FIRs—one for the murder of Meena Hansda and the other for the lynching of Chhotelal Hansda,” SDPO Oraon said.
Legal action is being taken against those involved in Chhotelal's death. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. The incident has left the village in grief and outrage.
