Stephen Marandi takes oath as pro-term speaker

Ranchi: Senior JMM legislator Stephen Marandi has taken oath as the pro-term speaker.

In a function held at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhawan Governor Draupadi Murmu administered him the oath of the pro-term speaker for the fifth Vidhan sabha.

Those present on the occasion also included Chief Minister Hemant Soren, cabinet ministers Rameshwar Oraon, Satyanand Bhokta, DGP Kamal Nayan Choubey, Chief Secretary DK Tiwari and others.

Post his oath ceremony the Chief Minister congratulated professor Stephen Marandi. He will no administer the oath to the newly-elected MLAs on January 6.

The first session of the new government will be held in the old assembly building itself as a request in this regard has been made to the Raj Bhawan.

Earlier it was expected that the three-day session would be held in the new assembly building however since an official request has been made it is for certain that in the old assembly itself the three-day session will be held.

The first session of the fifth Jharkhand Assembly will be held from January 6-8 at the old assembly building.

As per the schedule on January 6 oath will be administered to the newly elected MLAs while on January 7 at 11.30 hrs the Governor will address the house and the second supplementary budget for the year 2019-20 will be tabled.

On January 8 motion of thanks on the governor speech will be held followed by debate and reply of the state government after which the discussion and debate will be held over the demands of the second supplementary budget and subsequently the second supplementary budget will be passed.
