Ranchi court awards death punishment to accused Rahul in B Tech student rape and murder case

Ranchi: A local court in the capital awarded death punishment to the main accused Rahul Rai who was earlier held guilty in connection with a three-year-old case related to rape and murder of a B Tech student which had taken place at Booty Basti under Sadar Police Station area.

The court of special CBI judge AK Mishra awarded the capital punishment to the accused Rahul Rai alias Rocky Raj alias Ankit alias Aryan guilty in the case. The CBI had presented a total of 30 witnesses in the case between October 25 to November 8.

The CBI had got the 23 year old accused on production warrant from Lucknow jail on June 22 after which he was sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail. On the night of December 15, 2016, the victim was raped and later she was set on fire due to which she died.

The incident had come into notice on December 16, 2016. The two sisters of the victim were among the key witnesses to the case who confessed in the court that few days before the incident the accused Rahul had come to their home seeking a room on rent which was later refused by the family members.

After that day the boy was spotted following the girl. Before the incident, the boy was spotted in and around the house however after executing the crime he had fled from the area. The case was initially probed by the state police but after it failed to come at any concrete solution it was handed over to the CID.

The CID too remained clueless over the killer’s identity after which on March 28, 2018 the case was handed over to the CBI. The accused Rahul hails from Ghura village under Ekangarsarai Police Station area of Nalanda district of Bihar.
