Gumla: A clash broke out between villagers and security forces at booth number 36 located at Kudra panchayat under Sisai assembly area in which half a dozen policemen were injured and a youth reportedly also died in police firing.
Police personnel deployed at the booth said some anti-social elements had gathered around the booth and created a crowd. To streamline the queue the policemen asked the villagers to stand properly following which an altercation broke out between the two sides.
The villagers have accused the policemen of trying to stop them from voting in the elections as things went out of control police resorted to firing in the air to disperse the crowd to which the people retaliated with stone-pelting.
As things got out of control police was forced to open fire in which a youth sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital where locals claimed that he had died. The deceased was identified as Jilani Ansari (28). Post the incident the polling was called off on the booth.
Chief Electoral Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey has sought a report from the district administration over the entire issue. Among the injured policemen also included officer incharge of Sisai Police Station Vishnu Deo Chowdhary.
He said some anti-social elements had tried to snatch the arms of the RAF jawans due to which security personnel were forced to fire in which a youth lost his life and two others were injured.
