More than Rs 16 lakh seized from two separate vehicles in Garhwa

Garhwa: Despite another 24 days left for the first phase of elections in the state cash flow has started in the district as during a vehicle checking drive under Meral Police Station area of this district a sum of Rs 16.5 lakh was recovered.

Briefing the press at Meral block office DDC Naman Priyesh Lakra said that during a vehicle checking drive in the area a SUV was stopped and after checking a couple of bags were recovered from it containing money worth Rs 15 lakh.

Further from another car nearly Rs 1.50 lakh was recovered. He said that the SUV was going from Garhwa to Nagar while the another was going in the opposite direction.

Lakra said that in wake of the election in front of the Meral Police Station area a vehicle checking drive was being conducted during which the seizure was made.

He said that the driver of the SUV Deepak Singh and driver of the car Dhruv Shankar Pandey have been taken into custody and are being questioned.

Earlier the entire cash was counted before the officials and sleuths of the IT department. For counting the cash a machine from the SBI Meral branch was brought at the block office. Voting on the Garhwa Vidhan Sabha seat of the Jharkhand Assembly is scheduled in the first phase on November 30.
