Election Commission Team says no short cut in poll process in meeting with DCs and SPs

Ranchi: The team of the Election Commission of India on its second day of the tour to the state held a review meeting with all the DCs and SPs during which they were informed that there are no short cuts in the polling process.

The team of the election commission led by Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain asked the officials to get active for the polls and said that entire process has to be completed under a particular procedure and asked them to seriously work on challenges related to security, revision of electoral rolls etc.

Mr Jain asked the officials to included the names of voters in the age group 18- 19 years on a priority basis in the voter list and said that since every voter has the right to vote therefore they should feel happy about it .

He directed the officials to make seating arrangements at the polling booths and said that such voters can be given tokens so that they do not have to wait long for their turn.

He said that the role of the electoral officers and district electoral officers are very important and they apart from inspiring the people in different cells they also needed to ensure their training. He asked the officials to maintain transparency in the polls.

Mr Jain instructed the officials to hold regular meetings with the political parties and apprise them regarding the provisions. He also reviewed the EVMs and VVPATs and issued necessary instructions over the storage and security of the EVMs.

Mr Jain asked the officials to conduct sweep activities in such areas where voter turn out has remained low and also instructed to encourage the students to download c-vigil app. He suggested that random phone calls can be made to the people from whom information from the people can be collected and this will also help to have a positive impact on the people.

During the meeting, the DCs and SPs detailed about the steps that are being taken as part of the poll preparations. The Chief Electoral Officer of the state informed that during the polls facilities of webcasting will be available on 25 percent of the booths. 

Those present on the occasion also included Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kripanand Jha, ADG cum state police nodal officer ML Meena, CRPF IG Sanjay Anand Latkar and others.
