Raghubar launches no plastic at home campaign

Ranchi: Chief Minister Raghubar Das said that it was due to the participation of the people that the government was able to fulfill the dreams of Mahatma Gandhi. Addressing a program organised at Sarna Toli Hatma as part of Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign he said that Bapu is worshipped across the country due to his works and on his 150th birth anniversary people should take a pledge that they will not use plastic.

He said that this work can not be done at the government level only but needed the cooperation of the people. He said that in order to make a plastic-free Jharkhand its use should be removed from the behavior of the people than only the efforts will be successful and Jharkhand will emerge as number one state in cleanliness.

He said that when the Swachh Bharat Campaign was started in Jharkhand than only in 18 percent of homes toilets were present but due to the efforts of the government, Jharkhand has become ODF. Similarly under Swachhata Hi Sewa campaign to ban the use of single-use plastic efforts needed to be made at the ward level and the best performing wards in this regard will be felicitated by the state government.

He said that to discourage the use of plastic the government is using earthen pots for drinking water rather than plastic bottles.

Mr Das said that plastic is not easily destroyed and its burning causes lots of poisonous smoke which spread pollution which is harmful for the health, therefore, the state government is also discouraging the use of single-use plastic and is manufacturing bags in which women are being involved.

During the function, Mr Das administered the pledge to the people and asked them not to bring plastic in their homes and will also encourage the people in their neighbourhood to remain away from the use of plastic.
