Chief Secretary directs to make long term drinking water arrangements for Ranchi

Ranchi (By our Correspondent): Jharkhand Chief Secretary Sudhir Tripathi directed the water resources and the sanitation department to make arrangements for drinking water in Ranchi and other cities keeping in mind the future population. Chairing a meeting over the water supply projects of the urban areas he said that the present dams in Ranchi are result of the thought of previous 50-60 years and keeping in mind the needs of the future generations these reservoirs have to be constructed so that the rising population does not face water crisis. He asked the water resources and land reforms departments to look for land in the area of 50-60 kilometers of Ranchi where a reservoir can be built. The Chief Secretary also directed to maintain and increase the capacity of the dams.

Secretary of the Water Resources and Cleanliness Department Aradhana Patnaik said that catchment area of Kanke Dam has shrunk and efforts are on to improve the same and process was also on to link Hatia Dam with Tajna Dam. She said that Getalsud Dam has enough water capacity to solve water needs of the rising population for the next 10 years. Additional Chief Secretary of the finance department Sukhde Singh said that going by the current rate of population rise the water capacity in the dams was insufficient and assured that funds will not be an issue for undertaking construction of new projects of the water resources department.

In another meeting over PMAY (Urban) the Chief Secretary asked the urban development department to frame such rules so that after taking houses under the scheme the beneficiary does not return to the slums. He also asked the finance department to frame rules for all kind of land identified for PMAY.
