Public bicycle sharing project launched in Ranchi

Ranchi: The highly anticipated public bicycle sharing project was inaugurated on Sunday in the state capital by Urban Development Minister CP Singh. After becoming a member a person would get the facility to ride the cycle for 24 hours and the cycle can be taken from any stand and it can be handed over at any other.

In case the cycle is parked at some other place then the concerned user would have to pay a fine of Rs 5000. Those present on the occasion also included Deputy Mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiyee Secretary Urban  Development Ajay Kumar Singh Town Commissioner Manoj Kumar and SUDA director Amit Kumar. 

Speaking on the occasion the Minister said that a couple of years ago when he had visited Mexico he had witnessed the cycle project and had understood it and at that time he had thought that a similar opportunity should be given to the people of Ranchi and since then work was on this project and now it was seeing the light of the day and said that it was now the responsibility of the people of the city to maintain the cycles and use them as it will help to check pollution and also maintain health of the people.

Addressing the function Secretary of the department Ajay Kumar Singh said that in other cities also cycle project would be started. A large number of enthusiast where also present on the occasion and a cyclethon was also organized in which winners were felicitated. It was decided that from March 3 to March 9 people would be given a trial offer in which they would not have to pay any money, while for becoming a member for one day Rs 30 would have to pay while for Rs 200 one can become member for one month and for one year Rs 1000 would be charged after which the user can every day for 30 minutes use the cycle free of cost and if the time is extended to one hour then he would have to pay Rs 5 and for another two hours it would be Rs 10.
