State government should decide purchase price of paddy at Rs 2850 quintal: Farmers Organisations

Ranchi: In protest against the promises of the Central Government farmers’ organizations protested in front of the Raj Bhawan on Saturday. Hundreds of workers of farmers’ organizations took out a march from the Zilla school ground carrying flags and banners, which turned into a meeting in front of the Raj Bhawan. Through the Raj Bhawan March, a demand was made to the state government to fix the purchase price of Rs 2850 for pee quintal of paddy.

Addressing the gathering, State President of All India Kisan Sabha Bhuvbaneswar Prasad Mehta said that the central government has cheated the farmers. Despite the passage of one year, it has failed to fulfill the promise made to the farmers.

All three black laws were withdrawn in view of the elections in Uttar Pradesh and at that time the government had promised the farmers that a law would be made to guarantee the minimum support price and the case against the farmers will be withdrawn and every demand of the farmers will be considered. But even after a lapse of one year, the promise was not fulfilled he said.

General Secretary of the Sabha Mahendra Pathak said that the central government is supporting the capitalists to loot the land of the farmers. By making anti-farmer laws, they are continuously being looted. Their multi cropped land is also being forcibly encroached upon.

State President of Jharkhand State Kisan Sabha Surjit Sinha said that the central government has cheated the farmers. State Secretary of Kisan Sangram Samiti, Rajendra Gop said that the state government has not opened the paddy purchase center yet.
