Illegal minning not to be tolerated at any cost: Chief Minister

Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday said that illegal mining will not be tolerated in the state at any cost. Chairing a high-level meeting he said illegal mining should be stopped at any cost and strict action against people and mafia involved in this should be taken.

He stressed the need to prepare an effective mechanism to prevent mining. He said that some mining mafia are deliberately involved in illegal mining to bring a bad name to the state government. The Chief Minister categorically instructed the officials of coal mining districts including Dhanbad and Hazaribagh and those from stone mining districts including Pakur Chaibasa Latehar and Ranchi to strict action against illegal mining. Issuing a warning to the officials he said that illegal mining will not be tolerated in any part of the state.

He said that it is the responsibility of the officers to stop the illegal mining of major or minor minerals. He warned of strict action against those officers who would be found negligent in their work and further said that a team will be constituted at the state level to prevent illegal mining. The Chief Minister SA is that officials in the districts should take serious note of the incidents of illegal mining and ensure prompt action.

Further, he said that a toll-free number should be issued where information related to illegal mining can be shared and if any complaint comes to them sans the form prompt action should be taken against them as per the mining rules. He said that illegal mining also increases accidents and on several occasions inputs have been received regarding people dying due to cave-in. He said that such sites where there are chances of accidents should be closed immediately.

The Chief Minister said that it has been pointed out that some people through the transportation of coal are also involved in its theft. Coal is being offloaded via road and rail routes and even chain pulling was happening on tracks for coal theft therefore Jharkhand Police should work in coordination with RPF in this regard.

The Chief Minister directed that all the DCs and SPs should conduct a special drive against illegal mining from June 1 to 15. He said that through an effective mechanism concrete action should be taken against people involved in illegal mining. He said that after June 15 a high-level meeting will be organized over illegal mining and also directed the officials at least once a week to share details with media regarding steps being taken to check illegal mining.

Hemant Soren also directed the officials that in the check posts located in mining areas and districts CCTV should be installed and even PSUs and private companies involved in mining should be also directed to put the cameras at their sites and office.

The Chief Minister said that there are reports of illegal sand mining happening in rivers which should be stopped at any cost as there is a need to protect water resources and prevent the wrong impact on the environment. Those present in the meeting included Chief Secretary Sukhdev Singh, DGP Neeraj Sinha, and other senior officials.
