Congress lays claim over one Rajya Sabha seat of Jharkhand

Ranchi: The Congress party which is an ally of the ruling Mahagathbandhan of Jharkhand led by the JMM has laid its claim over one of the Rajya Sabha seats of the state which will go into polls next month.

During a press interaction at the JPCC headquarters here CLP leader and Minister Alamgir Aalam said that in the next one or two days party leaders will meet the Chief Minister over the issue and raise the matter.

He said that the party will say that in the previous Rajya Sabha Polls JMM supremo Shibu Soren was sent to the upper house therefore this time it was the turn of the Congress party. He said that on the basis of numeric strength Congress alone
can not win the polls but Mahagathbandhan has sufficient numbers to win one of the two seats.

Moreover, if Congress is elected to the Rajya Sabha then the party will be strengthened at the central level which will be beneficial. For the two Rajya Sabha seats, Jharkhand voting will be held on June 10.

Congress candidate Shahzada Anwar was defeated in the previous polls while Shibu Soren of JMM and Deepak Prakash of BJP had won a seat each. To a query, he said that it has become a habit of the BJP to destabilize governments where non-BJP parties are in power and the same applies to Jharkhand.
