Seven girls die while performing immersion of Karam tree in Latehar, CM expresses grief

Latehar/Ranchi: Seven girls lost their lives on Saturday as they were drowned in the water body in Manandih Tola of Seregada village located under Balumath Police Station area of this district.

Chief Minister Hemant Soren has expressed his grief over the incident. He has prayed to the almighty to rest their souls in peace and give strength to the family members to overcome the burden of loss.

Police quoting locals said that a group of girls had gone to perform the immersion of the branches of the Karam tree after celebrating the function of Karma at a water body located near the village. When one by one all of them drowned.

By the time villagers reached and took out the girls, four of them had died on the spot while three others succumbed at the primary health care centre. Among the deceased three of the girls are sisters while the remaining others are also from the same village.

All the deceased are in the age group 7-18 years. The deceased have been identified as Rekha Kumari (18), Lakshmi Kumari (8), Reena Kumari (11) (all daughters of Aklu Ganjhu), Meena Kumari (8), Pinki Kumari (15), Sushma Kumari (7) and Sunita Kumari (17).
