Tribal outfits hit the road in capital over Sarna religious code, make human chains

Ranchi: Demanding a separate Sarna religious code members of the various tribal outfits hit the streets of the capital on Sunday and also formed human chains.

Through this form of agitation, the tribals demanded from the state government to pass a proposal during the ongoing session of the assembly and send the same to the central government.

Sarna religious leaders said that religion and the existence of the tribals are based on their religion and social way of life. They said that they will not allow the census to happen if the religious code is not announced.

There are more than 12 crore tribals in the country who worship nature and do not have their separate religious code. The religious leaders said that after every ten years whenever the census takes place the tribals are either counted as Christians or Hindus as a result of which the population of the tribals instead of rising is declining every time.

On the other hand, the tribal outfits have decided to organize Satyagrah cum prayer meet before Gandhi Statue at the Morhabadi Grounds on September 21. Addressing a press conference religious head Bandhan Tigga and educationist Dr Karma Oraon said the state government should pass a proposal in this regard during the ongoing Monsoon session or else they would not allow the Winter Session to happen. They said due to the lack of a separate religious code the tribals have been battling the bane of religious conversions.

They claimed that between 1871 to 1941 during the time of the Britishers the tribals during the census had a separate religious code that was removed during the census of 1951.
