New Delhi (IANS) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal is scheduled to talk to industry representatives on Friday over video-conference regarding smooth resumption of operations and the logistical issues as the lockdown restrictions are eased.
The business leaders include Rajiv Bajaj, MD Bajaj Auto, Sanjiv Puri from ITC, Kishore Biyani, CEO Future Group among others, industry sources said.
Representative and chiefs of e-commerce majors Flipkart and Amazon also would be present in the video-conference.
Logistics is likely to be a major subject to be discussed upon during the conference, people in the know said.
Industry wants the government to provide railway support for logistics as there are several restrictions on road transport and drivers of trucks have also returned to their homes and are not available. Goyal also holds the railway portfolio.
Major logistics companies which would be part of the meeting are DHL, Gati Cargo, Gateway Rail Freight among others.
The nationwide lockdown is scheduled to end on May 3. There is anticipation that the lockdown will be extended, but the larger expectation is that although the lockdown is extended, further relaxation would be provided in terms of economic activity and goods movement.
The impact of the COVID-19 and the lockdown and ways to tide over the pandemic would also feature in the talks, industry sources said.
