Matter of shame says Hemant, after photos of girl eating rice with boiled cabbage leaf goes viral

Dumka/Ranchi: Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his anger after photographs of a minor tribal girl who was eating rice with boiled cabbage leaves went viral.

"It is a matter of shame for us and the entire Dumka administration," he tweeted adding further that his government was not like the previous government in which cancellation of 11 lakh ration cards was claimed as an achievement.

He had directed the district administration to provide all necessary government help to the girl and her family and apart from that all other such families should be identified and help should be provided to them.

Post the directions of the Chief Minister the district administration swung into action the block supplies office provided the ration card along with food grains to the family.

In Samlapur village of Jarmundi block of Dumka district there was no male member in the house of 70-year-old Chudki Murmu and her daughter who is mentally challenged along with her baby girl lived with her.

The woman claimed that she gets a widow pension which is only sufficient to buy rice and somehow run the house, therefore, the family keeps cabbage leaf in a dried form so that it can be boiled into the water and after adding salt can be eaten with rice.

The woman expressed her happiness after she was given the ration card and claimed that no she will be also able to get the treatment of her daughter Rukmini Soren who was suffering from mental issues as with the help of the ration card she will now be able to take the benefits of Ayushman Bharat Yojana.
