Ranchi: Former Cabinet Minister of Jharkhand Enos Ekka along with six other members of his family including wife Menan Ekka were awarded 7 years of imprisonment in a disproportionate asset case.
The court of special CBI judge AK Mishra awarded the punishment to Enos Ekka his wife Menan Ekka, his brother Gidiyan Ekka and relatives Roshan Minz, Dipak Lakra, Jaykant Bada and Ibrahim Ekka and also imposed a fine of Rs 50 lakh on each of them.
Failing to pay the fine all of them will have to undergo further imprisonment of one more year. The court has also ordered to attach all the properties of Enos Ekka.
In this case, the hearing was completed on February 12 after which the court had set February 25 as the date for the announcement of the punishment.
All the seven accused were present inside the courtroom when the judge announced the imprisonment. In this case, the CBI had recorded the statement of 158 witnesses.
The investigating agency had said that during his stint as a minister in the Madhu Koda government from 2006-2008 he had illegally accumulated the wealth. Binod Kumar of Deoghar had filed a case in this regard in the special vigilance court in which the minister was accused to accumulating wealth more than his known source of income following which the fir was registered in the year 2008 by the vigilance bureau.
Following the orders of the High Court in August 2010 the FIR was registered by the CBI. Former Minister Enos Ekka was also awarded life imprisonment in connection with the murder of a para teacher in the year 2014 however he was granted bail in the case by the Jharkhand High Court in September 2019.
Enos Ekka was elected as an MLA from Kolibera seat of Jharkhand assembly in the year 2005, 2009 and 2014.
