Israel Visit: Bigger change can be brought by understanding simple concepts for farming

Ranchi (By our correspondent): On the Second day of tour to Israel the team Jharkhand under the leadership of Mukesh Kumar DC, Dumka went to “Organic Green Farm” in Rural area of Central District of Tel Aviv, Israel. ” Organic Green” is one of biggest farm in Israel and managed by Kibbuzt community.

“The Kibbuzt” community in Israel is famous for doing farming on Cooperative principle and there are numerous such farms across the Israel and Kibuuzt community cultivate many high-value crops along with Poultry, animal husbandry and dairy also. Further, it was gathered that there is another community which is also engaged in the cultivation of crops and they are called “Mohav” community, nevertheless, they do farming on an individual level with bigger holding. 

During the visit, all 21 farmers asked more than 15 questions to farmers/ managers and technicians of the farm. The questions of farmers were based on the comparison of their existing practice and methods to improve upon the same and farmers have shown keen interest in learning the techniques and understanding the minute concepts behind techniques. During exposure visit of Organic Green Farm” the team met Michkel, Operation Manager of Organic green farm it was observed that more than 100 hectare of land was under cultivation at one place and most of the land was under Poly house cultivation where farmers understood that protected cultivation free farmers from seasonal variation and requirement for vegetable and leafy crops.
