Dreaded Maoist Kundan Pahan in police custody files nomination from Tamar seat

Ranchi: Dreaded Maoist Kundan Pahan who is accused in more than 120 cases including those related to the murder of former minister Ramesh Singh Munda filed his nominations in police custody from Tamar (ST) seat of the state.

Pahan was taken in police custody to Bundu where he filed the nominations as an independent candidate for the seat. He said that since he wanted to remove the problems of the people, therefore, he has decided to come into politics.

On November 11 the special NIA court had granted permission to Pahan to contest the Assembly Elections in the state.

The court of special NIA judge Navneet Kumar had granted the permission to Pahan to file his nominations. In a major flip-flop, the Jharkhand Party had declared Pahan as its candidate from the Tamar seat which was taken back in less than 24 hours with party president Enos Ekka saying that in confusion the ticket was awarded to which the central committee decided to take back.

Interestingly for the Tamar seat, Kundan Pahan is pitted against Raja Peter who is also in jail. Since August 9, 2017 Gopal Krishan Patar alias Raja Peter has been behind the bars for the murder of Tamar MLA Ramesh Singh Munda.

Others who are also in the fray from Tamar are sitting MLA Vikas Singh Munda who has been fielded by the JMM and Prakash Chandra Oraon. Kundan Pahan had surrendered before the state police on May 14, 2017.

He has been accused of the murder of MP Sunil Mahto, former minister and MLA Ramesh Singh Munda, Bundu DSP Pramod Kumar and 5 other policemen and inspector of special branch Francis Indevaar.

Pahan had shot to limelight when he looted from a cash van of a private bank a sum of Rs 5 crore and more than one kilogram of gold on the Ranchi-Tata road on May 21, 2008.

50 cases are registered against him in separate police station areas of Khunti district, 42 in Ranchi, 27 in Chaibasa, 7 in Saraikela and one in Gumla.
